A Program About Gorillas—Not Just at the Prague Zoo
A two-hour talk show hosted by Petr Fejk and Marek Ždánský about their experiences with gorilla care at the Prague Zoo and gorilla conservation in the wild. Captivating stories, unique photos and videos, and the opportunity to purchase books directly from the guests.
Marek Ždánský was a longtime gorilla keeper (1993–2008) who played a major role in changing the approach to great apes in Czech zoos. In Prague, he experienced the 2002 floods with the gorillas, the construction of a new, modern breeding pavilion, and the birth of Moja (2004), the first gorilla successfully raised in the Czech Republic. Today, he helps raise awareness about and protect gorillas directly in Africa. For his work in breeding and public outreach, he has earned the nickname “Gorilla Dad.”
Petr Fejk was the long-time director of the Prague Zoo (1997–2009); under his leadership, the entire facility underwent a transformation and modernization, and visitor numbers rose from 0.5 to 1.3 million people annually. The gorilla program became one of the most significant and successful projects of that era, both in terms of breeding and visitor engagement. Today, he primarily gives lectures and publishes. In 2021, he published a memoir titled *How to Run a Zoo*.
